Brief DescriptionRamesh is an associate professor at Southampton Solent University. He is a Chartered Construction Manager and member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB), and the Institution of Engineering Designers (MIED), and is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
He obtained his civil engineering degree in 1992 from the Institute of Engineering, Tribhuvan University, Nepal; his Master of Engineering in Construction Engineering and Management in 1996 from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; and his PhD from the University of Teesside, UK in 2002.
Ramesh received further awards for his achievement during his degree; a DAAD (German) scholarship to study for his master’s degree and the Overseas Research Student Award by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals of the Universities of the United Kingdom for his PhD. As a postdoctoral researcher, he was awarded the CRUCIBLE fellowship in 2004 by the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA).
Ramesh is a winner of the Excellent Academic Support Award 2016 at Solent University’s STAR (Student Teaching and Recognition) Awards, which are nominated and voted for by the University’s students and staff.
He has worked in the industry in design engineer, hydropower engineer, and civil engineer consultant roles, carrying out feasibility studies of roads and hydropower projects, design of hill roads and building projects in Nepal. He worked as planning engineer in Thailand on bridge and expressway projects.
Ramesh began his academic career at the University of Teesside working as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Construction Innovation and Research (CCIR), completing the EPSRC-ROPA project ‘Development of innovative managerial control system (IMCS): An application in the Precast Concrete Products Industry’, and supporting the DTI funded project ‘Enterprise simulation for precast concrete operations’.
He also worked on the B2B Manufacturing Centre-1.8M ERDF funded collaborative project with Warwick Manufacturing Centre, Warwick University and University of Teesside as a construction specialist providing specialist-support on IT and business process improvement projects for SME companies.
