KEC Conference 2018 on Engineering and Technology

With the theme of “Enhancing Research Ability of Engineering Students” Kantipur Engineering College, Dhapakhel, Lalitpur organized a one day KEC Conference 2018 on 27th September, 2018 at the college premises. This conference is first of its kind which focused undergraduate engineering students.

Er. Rameshwar Rijal, Principal, Kantipur Engineering College chaired the opening ceremony. Dr. Tri Ratna Bajracharya, Dean, Institute of Engineering was the chief guest of the ceremony whereas Dr. Deepak Kumar Khadka, Research Director, University Grant Commission, was the special guest. During the opening ceremony, the 1st KEC Conference Proceedings Volume 1 was also inaugurated. The total of 20 papers from four universities of different countries and eight affiliated colleges of Tribhuvan University of Nepal, were published in the conference proceedings.

Special session was also held during the ceremony where a guest speaker, Dr. How Tion Puay introduced his university and gave presentation on “Sustainable Urban Drainage”. Dr. Puay is from River Engineering and Drainage Research Center (REDAC), Engineering Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Malaysia.

There were three sessions for the paper presentation which run in parallel. Session I, Session II and Session III included papers from Civil & Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, respectively.  The three sessions were chaired by Dr. Vishnu Prasad Pandey, Young Scientist of the Year 2014, Prof. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Institute of Engineering and Prof. Dr. Manish Pokhrel, Kathmandu University, respectively. In total, 16 papers were presented in three different sessions.

Sessions were followed by the closing ceremony where the chief guest was Er. Dilli Raman Niraula, Nepal Engineering Council. This ceremony was chaired by Er. Rameshwar Rijal, principal of KEC. Three papers, one from each session, were awarded as the Best Paper during the closing ceremony. The awarded papers are:

  1. Session I: Study on Alternative Materials Used for Interlocking Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (ICSEB)
  2. Session II: Smart Glove for Sign Language Translation using Arduino
  • Session III: A Secure and Effective Pattern-Based Steganographic Method in Coloured JPEG Images
